A few weeks ago, I sent my 1985 Swiss Army Knife back to Victorinox for a broken blade replacement.

It came back today, fully repaired, cleaned, polished, lubricated and in a new box.

Total cost: ยฃ10 + return postage.

They sent the knife back with an invoice. I didn't have to pay a penny before the job was done.

A product that's been out of production for almost 40 years, repaired at very little cost by the original manufacturer.

I'm stunned. Happy, impressed, grateful and stunned.

Time to become anti-consumerist

I'm all for this and more, I think it's time to stop being a consumer. Sure, buy it if'n you need it, buy it if'n you want it, really want it, not because an ad told you you wanted it, but keeping the buying to a minimum.

WalMart, Amazon and many others helped put Trump in the White House, let's make sure it costs them.

I really wanted the political lesson of this election to be "Don't run the addled fascist grifter as your candidate, it is political death & you will lose.โ€

Instead the Republicans were confirmed in their belief that a loud angry (white) man who lies a lot is, in fact, the ideal candidate & will bring you everything you want, plus a pony.

I wanted the GOP to get spanked hard in the name of democracy. Instead the Hand of Fate gave them a full-body massage & a happy ending.

This timeline blows.

a little while ago, i posted that LGBTQI need a LAVENDER BOOK, just like Black folks had a Green Book during the Jim Crow era.

i want to make this a reality if it doesnt exist yet. if it does, iโ€™d like to be involved and help.

the Green Book wasn't just a travelogue. it really was an organizing tool, for making visible the literal path of liberation across the neoconfederacy.

we need to work on building networks of resilience more than ever.

tariffs, mass deportation โ€“ the pieces fit together

I think Iโ€™ve squared a circle. Doesnโ€™t mean itโ€™s real; just that Iโ€™ve found a way to square it.

Walk with me.

Letโ€™s say youโ€™re Trump and youโ€™ve promised mass deportations and huge tariffs on China and other countries.

Letโ€™s say that mass deportation is incredibly expensive โ€“ maybe youโ€™re aware that Hitlerโ€™s camps and extermination programme were eating 13% of Nazi Germanyโ€™s GDP in the middle of their wars of conquest.

Letโ€™s say youโ€™re also aware that this will take years and years and years, because thereโ€™s literally no way to do this quickly. Physically, I mean. 15 million people canโ€™t be thrown out overnight, or even over months. Itโ€™ll be years.

Letโ€™s also say you want to keep inflation down, particularly to keep prices from skyrocketing due to your tariff policies. Tariffs are, I remind you, a tax an imports that get paid by the importer, and which are passed on to the customer. They are inflationary, by design. At least, until and unless they torpedo the economy entirely, at which point, well, youโ€™ve set off a second Great Depression, just like Smoot and Hawley.

Now, letโ€™s say that itโ€™s very important to you to keep wages down as well, because nobody wants to pay workers if they can avoid it. If you want to bring back a lot of manufacturing in an already-tight labour market, thatโ€™s going to raise labour costs. It just is.

So you assign an amoral monster like Tom Homan โ€“ author of Trumpโ€™s Family Separation policy โ€“ as the โ€œczarโ€ of immigration. Heโ€™s promising the largest deportation force in history and recently said his answer to preventing โ€œfamily separationโ€ is to expel the entire family โ€“ citizenship be damned.

(Heโ€™s also a contributor to Project 2025 and a visiting fellow at Heritage Foundation. Project 2025 absolutely is the agenda. All of it.)

Then you start talking to people youโ€™re already very friendly with, the operators of private prisons. They are utterly ready and looking forward to the new policies. They see it as an opportunity to double โ€“ or better โ€“ the size of their evil industry in all its forms.

Your inner circle have already acknowledged youโ€™ll have to build camps โ€“ lots of them, big ones. Youโ€™ll call them โ€œprisonsโ€ or โ€œdetention facilitiesโ€ or โ€œmilitary camps,โ€ not โ€œconcentration camps,โ€ you certainly wonโ€™t call them that. Letโ€™s say โ€œfacilities.โ€

Prison โ€œfacilitiesโ€ are already well known for requiring prison labour, and for their pennies-per-hour payment to inmates. Private prisons have pushed the envelope on this in many ways; prison labour is a profit centre. One I was working against, before the fascist era.

So.

Imagine, if you would, the very easy jump.

Youโ€™ve got to do something with these hundreds of thousands of imprisoned people, donโ€™t you.

Imagine expulsions taking months, then years. Years at a time. Perhaps they stop working so hard on speeding up the process. Perhaps they slow-walk it, timed to, say, suit the availability of โ€œfacilityโ€ beds.

Of course youโ€™ll put them to work. A rotating cast of โ€œfacilityโ€ workers โ€“ โ€œprison workersโ€ โ€“ worked slowly through the system so thereโ€™s no one there quite long enough to start organising.

Paid, technically. At pennies for the hour, as a token, a pretence that itโ€™s not slavery. But, of course, it is. You recoup the pennies you have to pay by charging them for everything. Maybe even their bed.

And just like that you have highly profitableโ€ฆ North Korean-style labour camps, with entire families of workers imprisoned, for who knows how long while they are put to work as factory labour for the private prison companies which become the new internal outsourcers of zero-cost labour.

Slavery, though not by name.

Maybe youโ€™ll tie camp expansions to increases in tariffs. Raise them in parallel, timed so that the internal outsourcing absorbs the cost of the new tariffs. And then look โ€“ no price inflation, no wage inflation.

And whole new class of people to look down upon forever, if you like.

Itโ€™s quite the plan. Very neat. Very clean. Given that Trump voters actively want โ€œmilitary campsโ€ used against immigrants, itโ€™ll be a very easy sell.

And very, very profitable. Slave camps always have been, really.

And all you have to be is an abomination upon the earth.

And all your supporters have to do is let you be one.

Is that the plan? I donโ€™t know.

All I know is that all the pieces seem to fit.

Well that's embarrassing...

Ummm, I broke the admin account over here on #friendica . I can proudly say I'm an idiot.

Why?
Well, my host agreed to put up the pack of Friendica themes that's out there, and I had the brilliant idea to try one of them... using the admin account. Firefox now loads a blank web page, and Chromium spits back a 500 error. Ummm, hopefully my host knows a way to fix this. In one way it's good, if they can restore that account to an hour ago, it'll fix it without changing anything appreciably, the only thing I've done over there other than the theme was turn off the Tumblr plug in since I couldn't get that to work.

In a way that creates the problem here, I only have admin access, not server access, and I broke that admin page.

So, weโ€™ve seen in the last couple of days calls for Biden to resign and let Kamala take over as 47 for the rest of his term. Weโ€™ve also seen calls for Justice Sotomayor to step down and allow Biden to name a replacement.

Hear me out: Harris has a law degree, right? So, Biden appoints her to the Supreme Court to replace Sotomayor. Harris casts the tiebreaking vote in the Senate to confirm her nomination. Then Biden steps down, making Harris the president for the remaining days of his term. She then has Trump and Vance arrested and sent to Gitmo, using her official immunity powers.

Canโ€™t be any more far fetched than this timeline weโ€™re living in now.

Easier scenario. Biden has Trump black-bagged at their whitehouse meeting and we just never fucking hear from him again.
