I actually finally made the desktop leap two years ago because I was SO sick of advertising insertion et al into the start menu/etc. I don't regret it at all. Hey by the way South Koreans are now reporting they were put in chains and treated like animals for 7 days after ICE raided the multi-billion dollar plant they were setting up for the benefit of 8500 high paying American jobs.

What these damned Yankees are missing is a bit of decent risk assessment. Looking at the consequences of enraging customers and partners. Of removing the cheap labour from the country. Decimating soy and corn markets is just the start.

As well, he's forcing people at Microsoft to use it, literally tying their performance metrics and potentially paychecks and even jobs to using it!
Microsoft is already having problems, check out the latest issues with SSD's eating themselves after a recent Windows update for more on that. And this is about to make everything so much worse.
People that work at Microsoft and it's associated gaming companies are starting to unionize to try to protect themselves from this absolute lunacy, but who knows if that will be enough to turn it around.
In the meantime, if you're a Windows user, you might want to keep a very close eye on what's happening here, even if you're not a gamer. Because even if you never touch a controller this will affect you, and how Windows works for you.
“AI" at best right now is an error riddled mess, Microsoft being so committed to it that they're willing to cut parts of their own company off to dump ever more money into it is at best wildly misguided, at worst proof that some people in the steering levels of that company have literally lost their fucking minds.

Nobody cares about your beautiful, elegant, handcrafted code. Software engineers are engineers first and foremost, and producing code was never the main goal for software engineers.
And while I'm not sure about faster, I'm sure that between the necessities of using an AI buddy, I've never written code that was so "holier than the pope". Documentation, requirements, unit tests, integration tests, all that are not optional when working even with a frontier class LLM and high-end coding tool. Because I question the MVP assertion, without careful supervision, these things will generate something that fulfils the letter of your prompt.
Without any understanding or even the desire to understand what the “product”, “tool” or whatever is supposed to do.
I had LLM models that left out the hard parts of the app: the app is officially supposed to run from Android 4.0+, but hey Android doesn't provide a convenient API for our use case until Android 9+? No problem, put an if around, output a log message for the hard part where you have to do all the work yourself. If it had quipped, the hard part is left as an exercise to the user …
