"One Traveller reader has vowed never to return to the US after he was detained last month for eight hours at New York’s John F. Kennedy airport, while his laptop and smartphone were examined by US border guards. He was finally deported back to Australia.

His “crime”? Taking a more circuitous route to the US to save on his airfare, though he stresses he was not accused of any actual “wrongdoing”."

Don't visit the USA. Other, more tolerant countries are available.

A cleaning company grabbed global attention by transforming a dam into a giant art installation using only pressure washers.
German cleaning equipment company Kärcher teamed up with a Japanese team to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Iwaya River Dam in Saga Prefecture, Japan.
Together, they created a massive Godzilla artwork by using high-pressure washers to carefully strip away years of dirt and grime from the dam’s concrete surface.
They began on 11/ 4 and wrapped up by 11/22.

The stopper in the lid of my carafe is stuck. Several grown adults have failed to get it out. We’ve tried twisting it, poking it, hitting it and heating it. We’ve tried reasoning with it, pleading with it and shouting at it. It’s as if there’s a black hole inside that is sucking it sealed. It is clearly an impossible task. Which means someone in the Fediverse probably knows how to do it.

Update: Problem solved, thanks to your suggestions. Thank you! Yiz are brilliant.

then they would be fortunate. There are plenty of reasons to be skeptical of how we are educating a generation into debt *and* it would be great if those critics wanted to improve education, not just tear the system down.

Okay, #Canada

You've got your elbows up! Good for you.

You're buying Canadian, or at least not American, wherever you can. Excellent!

You're changing travel plans, staying the hell away from that dangerous place down south. Awesome!

There's one more VERY IMPORTANT thing you need to do to show that Canada matters to you, and you'll work to defend it:

VOTE!

Don't stay home. Don't assume the outcome is set. Don't abdicate your responsibility. You're a citizen--this is your duty. Take part, be a part of the system so that you can be a part of the solution. Show your fellow Canadians that you care, and show the United States that when they throw their weight around, Canadians take notice and stand tough!

Elbows up, Canada! VOTE!

IF you care about our election,
PLEASE help people get to the polls by arranging rides for those without a vehicle--they need their vote counted!

Some people didn't have the means or time to arrange for mail in vote!

Every vote counts!

I have this and I don't know why I have it. Does anyone out there with a retro Mac network setup want it? It's opened, but unused and (I believe) complete so if you like old Mac stuff in boxes, you might enjoy it! Even has the original twist tie around the cable for you to untwist!

Probably easiest to get to someone in Australia but if you're super, super keen and geographically challenged we can talk. 😎

oh I could use this to connect a couple of my old Macs together. How much do you want for it?
in reply to Wesley Moore

@wezm don't want anything for it, it's been sitting on a shelf for years. I want someone who wants it to have it!
in reply to Mike [SEC=OFFICIAL]

oh cool, I'm keen then. I have a couple of platinum era Macs that this would be well suited to.
in reply to Mike [SEC=OFFICIAL]

I may be interested if no one else wants it? I'm in Adelaide
and have a LC, SE FDHD, and a mac plus I'd like to network together for next years Marchintosh

Report: "US judge rules Mahmoud Khalil can be deported for his views", agreeing with Trump that Khalil’s ‘beliefs & associations’ are counter to US foreign policy interests"

"If Mahmoud can be targeted in this way, simply for speaking out for Palestinians & exercising his constitutionally protected right to free speech, this can happen to anyone over any issue the Trump administration dislikes."

Hey folks- I'm trying to find ADL tools for specific needs and not having luck. I find everything but kitchen adapters. Everywhere has gone to these faucets that use levers but they are too short to reach from a wheelchair. You can get eating adaptations, door knob adapters and everything else. Any one got ideas of either faucet lever extenders or tools that might work- reachers don't work well for this. I use a spatula to reach the dish disposal switch so I'm open to all types of possibilities

Apparently, all RSS readers are banned on Google Play:

Google added some restrictions to news app and I don’t see how Flym (and other RSS aggregators) could comply to that. For instance, Flym cannot provide a “valid and verifiable contact information” for the feed, nor it can assure that “each of the sources must meet News policy requirements”.

As of today, Flym updates on Play Store are blocked by Google. So I have archived this project in order to clearly show that I won’t maintain it anymore. I’m not aware of any official way of publishing an RSS client on PlayStore and do not have motivation to argue with Google.

Just one more argument against ever using Google Play.

Why not just release on third-party Android App store like F-Droid or Obtanium? You don't even have to deal with Google Play Store on those.

The current US administration is positioning any support of Palestinian people as a vehicle for bootstrapping the implementation of processes & precedents for crushing dissent.

While Mahmoud's own rights must be fought for tooth & nail, it is a mistake to assume his deportation is solely about him & his views. They have used him to prepare the ground for wide scale criminalisation of protest itself.

For the Far Right, speech is only free when it comes from their mouths

To be clear, a judge has ruled that someone can be deported not for what they have done, but what they believe, their views. The significance of this cannot be overstated.

A quotation from Robert Ingersoll
Millions upon millions were sacrificed upon the altars of bigotry. The Catholic burned the Lutheran, the Lutheran burned the Catholic, the Episcopalian tortured the Presbyterian, the Presbyterian tortured the Episcopalian. Every denomination killed all it could of every other; and each Christian felt in duty bound to exterminate every other Christian who denied the smallest fraction of his creed.
