So, I've been casually looking for a compact bookshelf stereo for my desk, something that could replace my computer speakers while at the same time giving me the option to listen to CDs or the radio, and yesterday I got this:

Image/photoThe image shows a silver JVC audio system with a digital display and various buttons and knobs. The display is illuminated with a blue light, showing the number "101." The system includes a radio tuner, CD player, and DVD player, as indicated by the labels on the front panel. The device is placed on a desk, with a red flexible tripod and a colorful LED light display in the background. The desk also has a small figurine on top of the audio system. The overall setting appears to be a workspace or a home entertainment area.

That's a big bigger than it looked in the pictures, or rather really deep. It is however great, and very much over kill. Why? Because it doesn't just do radio and CD, it also does DVDs, as in its a DVD player. No HDMI, but does have composite and I think S-video, so very nice piece, music and video in one small unit.

I might actually go back to the computer speakers, while this works fine, that'd allow me to hear things on the computer and play music at the same time, which is very appealing. Also since I've retired my engraver, I can replace my other computer with a small TV and watch DVDs at my desk if'n I want to.

Dunno if they still make units like this, but highly recommended, it's nice how it saves space while giving you so many options, imagine living in a tiny home or RV (caravan), all your media in one small box. I scored this one for just $20 on Marketplace, which seems about fair considering these were sold back around 2005, so really old.
