Ok, been trying a few new social medias out, and have very quickly come to decisions. Holos isn't for me, Loops is a great idea, and Wafrn is awesome. So, if'n you're following me here...

This place for the foreseeable future will be where I post my long blog entries, as well as where I follow Diaspora users ( @Andrew Pam any chance you have an AP account?) as well as my RSS feed reader.

@Chuff will become my new main social media

@Vextaur will stick around, and hopefully the upload problems will be fixed so I can post my short videos, usually commentary on something work related

@General Failure will be shutting down soon
@Chuff will be going soon too

The specialty accounts here ( @The Taur Nation and @Recalls ) as well as the Admin account, @Kāpitan until I get my own hosted Wafrn instance.

So why's Holos going so soon?
Really as I've mentioned, its not for me. I really recommend it for those whose social media is done through their phone, only one device is supported, and your phone/device is the server, you connect to the rest of the Fediverse via a relay so the only data that's anywhere other than your phone is the boosts, likes and friend requests from the Fediverse that came in while you were offline.

Why Wafrn?
Amazingly enough despite being so young, its very polished, and somehow manages to have a lot of that Tumblr feel. Plus I love how posts are displayed there, along with the silly extras. Once I figure out how to link people to just post groups like I do categories here, I'll likely pack this place up, but that could be a while.

Gotta say, as I expand into Wafrn... Spread like mold? I keep finding stuff I like, from being able to bite people, after all pokes are boring, or the barking and confetti when I woot, yes, woot not toot, and other cute things, then there's the little details...

Believe strongly in alt text?
Its default required in the settings, you have to go and turn it off, or your media posts won't send without having something in there.

Sharing links?
Sure, it sucks that you can't see the preview until after you post, but things like GoComics which never shows a thumbnail or synopsis here on Friendica works perfectly.

I think @gabboman the wafrn dev could prolly use some help on the project, but so far, what it does have works really nicely.

So, I've started migrating the people I follow over to my Wafrn account, @Chuff , following them there and unfollowing them here... And got into the B's and realized something, Wafrn doesn't give me any way to see my followers list nor migrate it far as I know which means I have no idea who I'm following over there.

Eh heh, heh, oops.

Well, no problem, just downloaded the list here, so at least I'll be able to recover the rest of them if needed, I do expect to switch to my own hosted Wafrn in the future if'n I'm lucky, poked one hosting service abotu it already even though I'm not remotely ready to do it.

Why my own?
To avoid some of the stupidities I've had to deal with on other people's instances, once got warned about not CW'd a picture of a cowtaur (cow person upper body, cow lower body), not because of sex, not because she was topless, but because you could see her udder. Yeah, that was the straw that broke my back and why I just have my own instance. Currently here I have... 5 accounts? Not sock puppets, this one, Admin, Recalls, Taurs and the newest, my porn account. Yeah, that's enough to justify my own instance.

Eww, that is one ugly and barely useful CSV file, only exports two things, user account names and whether I can see their posts or not. Following, follower or mutual status not included, nor is the profile name. Bleah.

Starting today I'm using my Wafrn more, but it won't completely replace this place. At the very least, this will still be my blog, at least unless I find a better platform for that. Oh, and following pod people (Disapora users), at least until they move to something ActivityPub. And RSS feeds.

Diaspora compatibility
Feed reader, this is one of the neatest features here, they show up in your timeline just like anyone else you follow
Hashtag auto complete/suggestion, kinda useful so we don't wind up with a thousand variations on the same thing
Link display in post creation window, if you paste a link into the creation box on Friendica or Mastodon, it displays the summary so you can see what the post will look like, Wafrn, you have to wait until your post is on your dashboard
No following or followers list

What's it missing that I want?
Queue function like Tumblr, something that Friendica has made clear they see no point in
An easy way to share internet links. This one isn't on Wafrn, for Friendica and Mastodon I use an extension on Firefox, I think this is a fork, of the older FediShare extension, and this one I don't think is supported as it seems to be a bit out of date on what services it supports. It'd be nice to see someone take over it and maintain it as its useful for sharing things.

Other bugs/glitches?
Relatively minor stuff, tried to upload a video that was possibly too big and got no error, just no video attached to the post.
If you search for someone then follow them, the page doesn't refresh the button status, the follow button doesn't become an unfollow, rather it stays a follow button

Seriously, that's a long list of nitpicks really, and like stuff @gabboman the wafrn dev will likely fix as time goes on since Wafrn is young, and none are a deal breaker. I'll prolly switch to hosted Wafrn instant at some point in the future, just have to figure out costs and what I want to do with this place.

Ok, in all seriousness, I'm very fond of Tumblr, I like the interface, and I've collected a great group of accounts to follow, isn't that what makes or breaks a social media experience? Obviously this is the great test, I don't think Wafrn offers the features that would make me leave Friendica, at least not yet, but we'll see if'n that comes around. Community can obviously be built by copying over everyone I follow here, and so that just leaves software, gotta figure out what works with Wafrn on Android, preferably Foss, because while I might be forced to use Android (or iOS), doesn't mean I can't keep my phone clean as possible. At the very least, it stands a good chance of replacing my Holos, and Mastodon accounts, with Loops possibly being replaced to, as I believe it does allow video files.

Oh come on, had to use that headline, even if'n we're just talking about my accounts. For the most part I'm on the Fediverse, although I am also on Reddit and Tumblr.

For those that remember my last post about this, I got rid of my Diaspora, the idea was for it to serve as an easy bridge between Tumblr and here, since Friendica doesn't thumbnail Tumblr post usually. Diaspora does that, until it doesn't, plus sometimes posts on Diaspora wouldn't properly display here, so that was rather pointless.
These days I just throw the memes up directly here, however there can be some lag if'n I forget to make a new post, and then I need help with alt text and @Altbot isn't entirely reliable ( @Micr0byte ), such as giving me alt text in the wrong language, or not at all. In fact today it managed to give me no alt text, but to message me and tell me that I should add the alt text to the image.

Here I have four accounts, this one, @Kāpitan which is the admin and occasionally posts server, admin or moderation commentary, @Recalls which posts all the recalls I can find, and finally @The Taur Nation which is devoted to posting centaur, lamia, naga and related artwork links and occasionally artwork, rated from G-R18G, content warninged as necessary.
Here there be questions, things about my life, and politics, though we do try to make sure they're properly tagged so you can make them go away.

If'n you don't like the politics, try my Mastodon, @Taurnsndhaus Admin , originally planned to be a back up in case something happened here, its boosting general content from here, occasionally original posts, so long as the post fits in a single tweet. Any politics that show up there will be local, St Louis, St Louis metro or Missouri, nothing national.

Like politics? Then my Tumblr is for you, here I post the most interesting and/or important stuff I find there, but I boost a lot more over there. Not much original content over there, despite how much I like it, I just tend to forget about it.

And lastly Reddit, which is mostly content I can't find here on the Fediverse, r/StLouis and ones related to my car (r/ChevyBolt) or my gig work. If that stuff starts showing up on the Fediverse, I'll start moving away from it.

Wait, I've always been a bit loopy, I meant to say that I've joined Loops. Actually joined it last week, but finally posted my first vid, just a little intro video, but I think there'll be more as I like it. I could use to find a PeerTube for longer stuff, and I'll likely do a second intro since I think I'm going to make more use of this than I'd originally thought, but we'll see.
