Frankly, I don't even blame the MAGA clowns, delusional as they may be. I blame those who voted for him out of sheer laziness and opportunism, thinking that a rapist, convicted felon and amoral so-called "businessman" would be the right person to run the government, in complete ignorance of everything we had learned of him before.
Somehow it is also apparently hard to explain to the "average american voter" that the consequences of their vote reach way further than their own borders.
The Green Party, people who split the ticket, and millions of people who don't vote are also responsible. If people listened to women, we wouldn't be here. None of this suffering had to happen. People could have voted for Hillary and Kamala instead of being dumb as a brick. Women dying from miscarriages wasn't "compelling enough" for these fux to vote for Kamala. They are as horrible as maga.
I think we need to organize, mobilize, protest and occupy the streets to get rid of fascists.
Then more activist action when that isn't enough.
I think the time has passed for us to point out their hypocrisy. We've been doing it about #MAGA for 10 years now. They revel in how it annoys us. They think we're cucks.
We know they're irrational. They don't care. They don't think like us. Get. In. The. Streets.
They supported a trillion dollar transfer to China for TikTok. A social media fad the Trump needs in the US for his bruised ego. In the history of the world, I think this is the first time someone is actually buying their way to the bottom.
When my team loses, I don't blame the fans, or the referees, or the weather. I blame the team. If they choose to compete and lose, then they need to take a look at their players, their coaches, and their game plan. The only way to win is by beating the other team, not looking for scapegoats to explain away their losses. In these days of legalized bribery, where money is speech and corporations are people (aka institutionalized corruption), the path to victory looks mighty narrow.

The treatment of americans of japanese origin was a scandal. One not to be forgotten. Their treatment before WWII were not much better. Much respect for speaking out about this forgotten abuse.
And the current White House is filled with people who idolize Hitler far more than they do FDR. So indefinite wrongful imprisonment is far from the worst they want to do!
I was born in a world where just that first word, 'deporting', was heavy with deeply negative sentiment. Dutch minister for Immigration Rita Verdonk even went to court over that word specifically in 2005, when posters appeared in the country linking her to a deadly fire in a detention center: "Rita Travel Agency. Arrest - deportation - cremation" (She lost)
I think we need to go back to where that word alone was enough to make people object.
I can‘t help remembering it whenever I read one of your posts on this issue, George. I can‘t help remembering my great-grandmother who was deported from her home in Vienna to die in a ghetto. I can't help shuddering about the breathtaking hypocrisy and hatred required to justify all this.
I truly don't think people are understanding that under the current situation as it already stands right now, anyone can be disappeared for any reason. It can be a total whim even. You didn't salute the fuhrer fast enough. ICE grabs you and if anyone asks, they say they thought you were an illegal immigrant. You don't get a trial, you don't even get to speak to a lawyer, so you can't even show your ID or anything. Just off to "detainment" or even straight onto a plane.
I was in Fresno at the fairgrounds in February where they have the memorial at the site of the temporary internment camp. It did make me wonder if we were going to see it happen again, and things are definitely moving that way.

When I was working at SRI, one of my co-workers had been in an internment camp as a child. He was a really nice person. When our manager left, all of us recommended him as a replacement.
One tiny piece of good news:: it seems a judge just ordered the Trump administration to have the guy they deported to El Salvador "in error/by accident" back in the U.S. by Monday, and the judge does not want to hear excuses.
@48kRAM and the Supreme Court did not even rule on the issue of internment without due process. They were released only because “loyal citizens could not be detained”. In short, SCOTUS would have been fine with internment if those people had shown any disloyalty (which is just an opinion, mind you). This shows that institutions and rules are only as solid as the men who respectively compose and apply them. I.e., with the current SCOTUS all bets are off.
Private prisons are a notorious feature of the American criminal punishment system, but when it comes to immigration detention, private prisons are both more ubiquitous and (possibly) easier to close.
If any group has no right to due process, anyone can be assumed to be in that group and immediately lose their rights, and they get no due process to prove that they're not part of that group.
That's how they can deny anyone their rights. Even people who are not part of the targeted group.
If you haven't seen George Takei's Allegiance, I highly recommend it. This is what happens when a government (illegally) classifies an entire group of people as a threat and denies them due process. The targeted people show themselves to be far better Americans than their accusers/abusers.
Republicans and Democrats have written a bill that will finish off Putin, by adding 500 percent tariffs on all countries that import from Russia.
There is overwhelming bicameral support for the bill, and now Trump will have to explain why he is willing to ruin the US economy but not Putin's economy.
Is Trump trying to use all this drama to distract from something in order to gain an advantage for himself and his closest friends. Is Musk not a buddy of Trump. Hedging?

It's starting to look like Trump had Big Balls or some other intern use ChatGPT to come up with his tariff policy. It's not "reciprocal" at all. The numbers are totally made up.
Someone asked a stupid question to an LLM and then ignored the response saying it was stupid.
The biggest risk of GenAI has always been the human idiots behind it.
Because none of this is about the tariffs, it is creating mechanism for the Tr*mp admin to extort countries and force them to declare fealty/loyalty/pay bribes to get tariffs lifted.

Now that I want to compile a book in #Scrivener, it keeps only exporting only in the first page of each chapter. Makes for a shorter book, sure does. Can't find an option to export the entire chapter. Help!

Oh, yay me, I found a #scrivener bug in the newest version. I just wrote it up for Literature and Latte. I had a reputation as a programmer as able to discover bugs nobody else ever found, maybe because I'm neurodivergent?
Here is a few samples of misrendering that is preventing me from creating a manuscript of any sort.
Image 1: Scrivener screen shown. Note on the left that a header overwrites text. The two page view only shows the first page of at least two in the file. This result is mirrored in export when compiled in any format.
Image 2: This is a scrivener screen with Show Invisibles on. In this case, the next paragraph is shown on the second page, but it appears to be in some sort of layout box which is editable. Instead of being truncated like most of the chapters (and the other image), the text shows up on page three. This is also how export compile formats it.
Edit: Second image actually truncates the file on the third page and presents a blank page on the fourth. At least it is consistent!
Problem solved! Not a #Scrivener bug, but this happened because I do things differently.
Issue: Scrivener can't export more than a page of a file, it gets truncated or misrendered. Page view with Show Invisibles shows a red box surrounding the text.
Problem: Table formatting has be inadvertently applied. This can happen when you copy text from a web page into the file. In my case, I copied it to a template, then used the template on every single file.
Solution: Turn on View > Text Editing > Show Invisibles. Find the red box. Use > Format > Tables > Remove Table.
Everyone out here trying to figure out how the #Trump administration derived its insane methodology for calculating tariff rates and the likely answer is much simpler and much stupider than anyone imagined.
A gentle reminder to the Canadians in my feed. While the polls currently look well for the Conservatives to NOT form the next government, that means nothing if you don't get out and vote. And get out the vote. Complacency because of favourable polls can wreak havoc with the actual results.
