This house is great for WTFs. Each bedroom has an outlet and a ceiling fan controlled by a light switch. I eas hoping they did it the easy way and used the lamp box to tie everything together, but nope, one cable in the box. So,i decided to next look at the switch, maybe that's the junction, and⦠Off the top of my head i only know two ways to wire a circuit like this, but they came up with a third, they used a 14-3 Romex cable in the switch box. Umm, i'm trying to think of what they could've done, and drawing a bit of a blank.
Ugh, overslept, which isn't a big deal as I had to take today off. Getting to sleep was a challenge, but I mostly slept it through, I got up a little near 5, but mostly slept it through, but struggled to wake up. Still feeling like I'm struggling with that, but we've made and ate breakfast, though the cooking didn't go well, tried to flip the open face omelette to early, then got side tracked and over cooked the other side, then left the cheese on too long, almost made it crispy cheese. Edible, but subpar breakfast. Coffee doesn't seem to be helping with the sleepiness. Bleah, what kind of day can I look forward to?
Stretches, "Well, guess I'm up until⦠Dunno, woke up about 0130 to go to the bathroom, and kinda drifted in and out until 0315, and gave up. Wide awake, guess it means I've gone nocturnal again, or perhaps i've gone polyphasic, either way, we're up, eating breakfast (open faced Italian sausage omelet, taters and beans), and sorting things out. Bank account over drafted, oops, not like I don't have savings to cover it, just need to figure out what happened. I'd actually go do some work, but Amazon doesn't need any drivers at this time of night, nor do any of my other apps. Well, Roadie has(had?) a pharmacy order out of Granite City, but that's 20 miles away, and it paid like $30 for 35 miles from the pharmacy, so not exactly worth my time, especially as I have to be back here at 1000. So, what're y'all up to this chilly (15°C) morning?"
It's Thursday night and thus the start of our Easter holidays! Australia takes Easter very seriously, that and Christmas are the two biggest events in the calendar. Good Friday is a major public holiday and everything is closed. Most people have Easter Monday off as well but retail shops are open on a Saturday schedule and overtime rate.
Ooops, guess I'm re-inventorying the comics, was trying to figure out how to remove some of the books and accidentally erased them all. 11000 comics⦠This is going to be a project to redo. Oh well, was already thinking of doing it as some books turned up around the library when I first did it, and around the house while doing the books, so things are a bit of a mess. Plus I used existing boxes, so I have a fair number of long boxes, it'd prolly be good to use only short boxes as there's already more of those. I think I'll be giving the graphic novels to the book buyers, they might not give me much for them, but with the scale of the collection, most shops won't give me much either, prolly 50’/book, maybe 75’ if I'm lucky, so its not like it'll hurt me, and it'll let me thin the collection down, prolly not enough to make a difference, but we'll see.

Any how, as I've mentioned in other posts, I've been working on blowing out my husband's book collection using apps, three apps to be precise. Sure, they don't pay great, and it leaves me to deal with the books they don't want, but its fast and convenient, and got rid of about 900 books. The result is that the library is much smaller, with the books fitting on one wall now, plus one case in the living room. That's down from around 9 cases downstairs, 2 in the living room and 1 in the bedroom.

Those haven't gone to waste, being used to upgrade my bookcases in the bedroom and rearrange them a bit, that narrow case for example is going to be used as a display case.

But, this is just the tip of the iceberg, I'm also replacing the bed, dropping down from Queen to TwinXL, and I had thought about relocating it to the one wall over there, since late 60's design only leaves me two walls to use, but I'm also thinking of moving my desks and computers in there, so that won't work. Sure, I could put the desks where the bed is now, but that'd leave one sticking out into the room, and I suspect that'd make moving around the room difficult. Putting them on the back wall, aside from the standard electrical nuisance that I'll need to fix, will make for a more balanced space where the bed is in the front, and the bookcases and desks are in the back. And the TV will be floating around, as there's no good space for it. I might throw out that stereo that's sitting on the floor, I'd bought it in a thrift store, and it works⦠so long as you don't want any lights or digital displays. I'd figured it'd be an easy fix, that'd have to be a lighting circuit common wire, right? Yeah, the design and wiring of that thing is a nightmare, and with my computer room stereo coming with the computers and desks, I don't really need it as I have a record player in the living room. It was cheap new, it was cheap used, and its prolly too much work to fix it so we'll see.
Any how, this is the most productive I've been since he passed, between how much has been on my plate since November, and a lack of motivation to do anything here, not much has been done. That said, time is never on my side, and I have a lot to do, tons to sell, throw, etc. I have for the last month or so been cleaning out the shed, throwing out about half a can a week, but the house has mostly been ignored, and now I'm making it my house, or at least a test version, I'm still expecting to downsize and relocate as I live in a Republican state, something I'd like to change.
Oops, forgot to buy a headboard, need a bookshelf style, though I'll have to make sure it'll work with the short bed frame (9") that I chose, otherwise its worse than no headboard at all. Also need some 'trees' for the updated version of Vik's memorial.
Lets go spend lots of money on Amazon. Yeah, I usually avoid them, part of the evil empire and all, but convenience and price wins out sometimes, especially when you need a bed, mattress and bedding, even at their prices its like $500 I suspect, and the only local option would be a furniture store, and that'd prolly double the bill. WalMart might save me a dollar or two, but not much and they'd be less convenient.
Sure, it'd prolly be easier if'n I bought a normal bed size rather than a TwinXL, but a Twin is 74Β½ inches, and I'm 5'12, unless I sleep with my head against the headboard, my feet'll be hanging off of that, so TwinXL at 79Β½ it is. I could prolly make my existing bedding work, its all Queen size, so same length just wider, but that's the smallest part of the bill, so not much point in saving at that point.
Boy, today is going to be a mess, thankfully I have a few days to get back on track before I return to work. So, this week I'm finally starting to do stuff estate related, this week was cleaning out the book collection. No, seriously, I've basically spent something like five days working from one app to another, three apps total, selling Vik's book collection. Roughly 900 books went, and there's still plenty more if'n anyone wants a book. But, that's been this week's focus, took off work, and did nothing but that including re-arranging yesterday's plans to do one last pass. Wasn't the plan, but it kinda made sense as I went to clean and sort the downstairs bedroom, and decided I wanted the books all on one wall. This would require either moving full bookcases, emptying them, moving them and putting the books back or using some of the already empty cases and shifting books to them. If'n I'm doing that, why wait to sale scan them until after? So, about 30 more books boxed up, gotta ship that out Monday, and we're done.
So today? Time to rearrange and clean the bedroom, and we're also continuing the shed cleaning which we've been doing for a month, not because its a big job, but once a week, I sort and throw out trash until the curbside can is about half full, so maybe an hour a week if'n that. Once I get this part of the bedroom done, we'll decide on its future, I might replace the bed with a TwinXL, and move my desk and computer into there, not sure. Beyond that all the weekend calls for is a little work on household finances and grocery shopping, so not much. Oh, wait, gotta cut the lawn too.
Yeah, nothing really huge this weekend, so mostly just rest, maybe some extra cleaning, not sure.
Well, they're definitely rare at this point, most stuff is out of my hands, lawyer is working on some stuff, and its really a matter of just waiting at this point.
We were at Sunset Hills flea market selling stuff Sat, mixture of left overs from my storage unit flipping days, Vik's stuff, and some of my stuff I don't want. That didn't go all that well, but that's because I wasn't well prepared, I gathered stuff last minute, and where I thought I had stuff to sell, turns out there really wasn't all that much. Clearly next time I need to be better prepared. I'm also using a we buy books type app to sell off his massive book collection. The good news, they're buying 592 books. The bad news? I have to pack those to ship to them, that's going to be a barrel of laughs. It took about 4 days to scan and key all those in, and I've stopped working to focus on it. Their prices are kinda crap, but they cover shipping, so what do you expect? Also they'll likely reject some of the books, so the promised money will drop, but honestly, shrinking the collection is kinda more important than the money. When I have this batch gone, I use another app, and then when that one is done, I'll use another one, and after that, anything left will be sold at the flea market or dropped into free libraries along my deliver routes. Or maybe sell on WhatNot.
Now with that said, there is a collection I need to figure out what to do with, and that's magazines. Some like Asimov and Analog, relatively easy, if nothing else I'll set up shop on WhatNot and sell them or the flea market, but there's also a lot of pagan magazines like RFD, Green Egg and others, some body art magazines, as well as some gay porn and a few issues of Advocate. Sure, I could just pulp them, but that seems a shame, they do reflect the culture of the time, I kinda feel they should be preserved, but I'm not real interested in doing so.
Using an app to sell a lot of my husband's books, and they don't pay too badly, we're averaging about 30Β’ a book plus free shipping (I think). If I were selling them at a garage sale, I'd be asking 50Β’ for paperback, $1 for hardback, so the price works and its faster. This is just the downstairs box.
Busy, busy today, got up at 6, pulled all the donations out, now at Discount Tire to swap out the tires and wheels for the set that'd been on Doppel. After that, Walmart for insoles, and might as well get the groceries done. Then home to get things ready for tomorrow's flea market
I hate hold music, on the phone with the second investment firm, with a good hour so far between the two of them. Of the two, T Rowe Price has the worst hold music.
Vik was so disorganized, so far since he passed in July, I've had to deal with Fidelity, Morgan Stanley (I hate them with a passion), Merril Lynch (not impressed by them, despite knowing there was an account there, likely inherited from his mom, they can't find any record of either of them having an account there ever), and T Rowe Price. Definitely glad to be consolidating this down to a single financial planner who uses Charles Schwab. Not sure how good CS is, but if I had to choose one of the ones I've dealt with, it'd be Fidelity hands down, they've been incredibly easy to deal with.
So, about todayβ¦ Lets see, its -6Β°C at the moment, but feels like -14 and they just revised the temperatures down to a high of -3. Thank goodness I just need to be at the chiropractor in an hour, then pick up a cup of coffee (St Louis Bread ain't great coffee, but its free coffee), and come home, no more out for today. Today is my first four week chiro visit, they've been three week visits since I hurt m'self, and the next one will be in four, but after that we might go six and see how things go, these visits are basically a permanent thing. Lets see how many spoons I have left after taking care of more estate matters, gotta call two investment banks and depending on how things go, might have to tell the lawyer to unfile the probate matter and refile as a large estate, which is a double edged sword, more money for me, but instead of 2-3 months, this can take a year or more to resolve. Should do some cleaning, butβ¦ Ehhh, we'll see. Yesterday wasn't much, grocery shopping and household finances done. Oh, slightly broke the DBA registry for Missouri by trying to register β Generalβ Delivery, while the stars didn't throw an error, they did get replaced by question marks as the system has no idea how to handle that. Tomorrow will be work of course, thankfully it should be around 5 to 10 degrees warmer than today, but not sure about the wind, I think that'll less so the feels like'll be sane. Unfortunately work won't, Friday they were already making noises about it being so busy they need all drivers. Oh well, long day for me, and I'll be able to do an early start on Wed as they'll likely have routes that never went out.
So I might be re-focusing here, Wafrn is getting on my nerves. Its not that I don't like it, @gabboman the wafrn dev has done a great job, but I don't like being forced to be linked to Bluesky. Since I disconnected from it I get error message when trying to like, re-share or comment (I think its all of them) on random posts, not just Bluesky or Wafrn, but randomly anything, mastodon.social posts sometimes will throw an error for example.
And then there's the problem with links to accounts, there's two, one in the profile and another at the bottom of the timeline to go to the user's actual page rather than filtered through my instance. Its a minor problem, but especially on .social domains the bottom one substitutes a number for the user and doesn't work.
Sure, there's features it lacks that I'd like, and if'n someone came along and made something akin to Mastodon/Pleroma/Wafrn/et al with those would be awesome, but I can live with what it has.
I am giving GoToSocial a shot, if'n I can get time to really play with it, but at first glance I can't say I'm impressed by it, there's no obvious additions or improvements to it over the other choices, and the lack of a front end means that I'm using basically the same interface as Mastodon, so it doesn't look nor feel any different.
@gabboman the wafrn dev Annoying part is the inconsistency, sometimes I get the error, but can still like the post, other times I can't, and its not restricted to Wafrn, but really any random post.
Just my two cents on GoToSocial. I really loved it when I used to be heavily active on fedi, but its promises of being "lightweight" are somewhat⦠incorrect. While that's true, it eventually chews through I/O like its no-one's business. Suppose it you keep to a small circle it probably won't be that bad, but letting it run wild federating with a huge amount of servers really chokes it.
Ours was connected to Postgres. I must point out our GTS server was federating with an insane amount of servers (like, getting way past 10k+). While that probably wasn't within its usecase, it was entirely the reason I stopped self-hosting fedi in the end: I'd already obliterated our self-hosted Mastodon instance, and I just could not be bothered with doing yet-another-migration-and-starting-afresh-again.

Time for dinner surprise. What's the surprise? Well, I bought a couple two packs of stuffed chicken breasts on clearance at the local grocers, separated and froze them without marking them. And I forgot what flavors I bought, soβ¦
Ughh, might be time for a new phone. Yesterday my phone wouldn't charge⦠Actually that's not quite right, it will charge, but real slow and heats up. Maybe it was just a fluke, but wireless charging hasn't been working for the better part of a week. Prolly get the same one again, the 2026 G Power really doesn't offer much, dumping the flaky wireless charging and bumping the batter from 5000 to 5200, along with a couple new colours.
Thirteen months, not bad honestly, though that prolly doesn't sound great, but I do a gig version of UPS' work, 4 to 5 days, 6 to 10 hour days, breaking once or twice to hit the bathroom and grab a cup of coffee. There's no phone who's battery will last the whole day, so if'n I'm going from than 2 miles and have less than 90% battery, I usually plug in for a top off, which really isn't that much, but combined with end of day charging to full, I have a funny feeling I've done more charging cycles in those thirteen months than normal, at 2, maybe as much as 4 times as much. Kinda explains it dying so soon, right?
So why buy another? Because frankly its the best rugged phone bargain out there. Sure, Motorola at best claims its durable, not rugged, but with a mil spec drop rating and IP 68 and 69 water ratings? At $350 compared to $650 starting for a real rugged phone, its hard to beat, and I've certainly tested it, I've dropped it in the warehouse on a concrete floor, onto the street, fumbled and sent it flying, scanned and photographed packages with rain running off the phone, I've really put it to the test. Now that there's a 2026, looks like I can get one for $250 unlocked from Motorola (funny thing, the new prices haven't hit their Amazon store where the 2025 costs more than a 2026 right now), and I'll prolly keep the old as a back up.
I think I'm going to take tomorrow off and have a three day weekend. My feet hurt, my knee hurts, and its been a long week. Goal is $700 with a minimum of $500, and we're at $542 for this week, last week we made $809, so we can definitely afford it. Oh and to make things interesting, this weekend my credit union will be down, some services will be available, but they're making major changes to the computer systems, frankly if'n I understand what they're doing it, they've been needed. It shouldn't cause me any real problems other than likely not having things credited or debited from my account until Tues, assuming it all goes well.

Life, there's not much to talk about, work, kill time, work, that's about it. Every now and then the fact that I'm growing old slaps me in the face, like last Sunday. At around 0300, I got up to use the bathroom, checked my apps and found Amazon was throwing money around. Well Ok, guess I'm working, day 6, leaving the house at 0330, few hours of work, then home, nap and errands, perfect. Grabbed second breakfast on my way home, and found I couldn't nap. That took a few days to recover from. That on top of my main gig burying me in work. Yay. Valentine's Day came and went, me and Vik never really did much for it, so was just another day for me. Wrapping up the process of moving my investments that I inherited, the whole process will likely take to around the end of the year, only because the courts will have to be involved in some of that due to the lack of a will or TOD. Also getting my taxes done, same company, that took a while, joint return, and couldn't find Vik's 2024 so that might complicate things a touch.
Got a flea market coming up, I'm actually prepaid for tables at Sunset Hills flea market at their community center for Mar, Apr and May. Still have to sell stuff here, running into problems on that front, each time I think the comics are sold, it falls through, and books should be a fairly easy matter. Once those are gone along with giving his mom's stuff to his family, this place will be mostly cleared out, so once legal matters are done we can downsize. Speaking of downsizing, I think I know where I'm going to wind up, prolly somewhere around IllFallon... I mean O'Fallon, IL. Not real far from here, and certainly not really closer to my family, but I have to say I like that area. That's where I was delivering for Amazon, at O'dark 30, and gotta say, despite not being able to see things and mostly running in and out of suburbs, I gotta say I like it over there. I think somewhere over there or a little bit east, between I64 and I70 will likely be where I wind up. It feels comfortable, if feels like somewhere I could easily move in and just feel right. I've actually seen a property I like in Edwardsville on Marketplace, but that one would be best if'n my family would want to join me. Its not a large property, but its kinda triangular with one corner and the address in a cul-de-sac, and one side on another street. Could buy it chop it up and have street facing for three houses. But, the property has been on Marketplace for a while, so its either a zombie ad, something is wrong with the property, or its a scam. Oh well, obviously time will tell, but we'll see.

Any other news... Well, I'm recovering. Anyone with sense knows that eating at Jack In the Box is risky, but the food is so good... In a junky guaranteed bad for you way, which is why I grabbed breakfast for dinner last night on the way home. Considering how much of a fiasco things were at that store, my order took over 10 minutes to be made, I prolly should've expected this morning, but... Oh well, spent way too much time in the bathroom, limped off to work for a nice light day, then came home napped for an hour or so.

Whoops, one of the more complicated formulas on my mileage sheet, not that its particularly complicate, somehow got messed up resulting in me making 1049$/hr at Amazon yesterday. Yeah, it was a good day, but not that good.
Yay⦠Well, sorta yay, finally got 2 new M2 cars to add to my collection, its been months since WalMart had anything I wanted, in fact their stock has been real low for a long time. Unfortunately I seem to have lost my database of my collection, so that's annoying, going to have to re-do that. That said, here's the collection ![media-1] Admittedly kinda hard to see as its just so many of them, 32 if'n I'm mathing right. From top to bottom, the first shelf and the left cars on the second shelf are all VW's, mostly vans or van-pickups. A pair of oddballs fill out that shelf, a 50's American cargo wagon and a 70's Bronco in patriotic paint. Below that are the American cab overs, whether Dodge A series or Ford econolines, so far 16 of those taking up just over two shleves. Finally at the end are the rest of the miscellany, a pair of 50's Ford conventional trucks, and the newest addition⦠![media-2] A 1970 C900 pickup. 100 was ½ ton, 200 ¾ ton, 300 1 ton, so⦠? Not sure what the weight class were on these, but they were heavy duty trucks typically box trucks, flatbeds or other service vehicles, a pickup is very interesting to see, and I always love the styling on these.
Hopefully I'll sleep decent tonight, last night was better, but not great, and the rest of the week poor. Been surviving on crazy amounts of coffee, more than any human should consume, thankfully I'm not hum⦠I mean thankfully I'm already crazy, so no harm done. Yep, that's what I meant to say, move along boys, girls and others, nothing to see here.
Man, it feels so weird not to have my work phone with me. Normally I have one fun to rule them⦠I mean one phone for everything, but because I'm trying out a prepaid service on my work phone, I have two phones, but it feels weird not having my gig apps at hand even if'n its prolly healthier to take some time off
Ooops, spent too much at Ollies, I prolly shouldn't be allowed in there without supervision. that said, it was a rather interesting shop, lots more snacks and coffee than planned, but also a thermostat, as I'd mentioned before that the current one is battery operated, and I don't like that, especially as I found out because I woke up to a dead thermostat and no heat. I will have to figure out the wiring, as this one requires a C wire, and I'm not sure we have one, though I am sure the furnace has one, if not I can just use a bell transformer to feed it.
Ooof, new day, still sore though. Yesterday was a chore, first work Saturday, first of the new system, 72 packages, 71 stops, 9Β½ until I got home including a few short breaks. Only my feet and lower legs hurt last night, but now everything hurts. Breakfast was a smoked cheddar and roast beef omelette, tator tots and beans. Sounds fancy, but the tater tots was because I was out of hash browns and too tired to make rice last night, the roast beef was an odd piece I had left over, too little for a sandwich, the cheese from a food gift set I got for Christmas. Yep, basically whatever I had kicking around. Need to get dressed soon, someone'll be coming for something I'm selling on Marketplace (if'n you're in STL and want to shop, shout at me), and I'll see if'n I can pick up a couple things from Marketplace while I'm out. Out will be grocery shopping, Walmart for crisps, maybe Ollies as I'm out of spice drops, and that'll be it.
Well, looks like things are going to work with Tello. Not sure I posted here about this, but about ten days ago I decided to try out Tello, a prepaid cellphone service, using my deceased husband's number, that way I can switch my work phone back to my old SIM and service if it didn't work as I can't afford to be without service because of my job. So, according to Verizon I use about 12G of data on a busy month, so I was going to get a Tello 15G plan, but it turned out the unlimited was only about 2$ more, so I went that route. According to Tello, last week, my first week with them, though only a 4 day workweek, I used 2G of data, right inline with expectations. Considering that the unlimited plan comes with 50G of high speed data, this means that Tello will work fine. I was worried that I might run into problems with it not being a prioritized VMO, but aside from a few errors on Tues that might've been software rather than a lack of data, I've seen no problems any where. So, the first step in cutting down my bills is a success, just a matter of deciding what phone number I want to stick with as I don't think I need two phone numbers. I will say the number I'm using on Tello is easier to remember than the one I currently have on Verizon, but switching to that would require changing my number in a lot of places, and I'm sure to forget and break something. Also saving won't be huge, not compared to what I pay through Verizon, having two lines, 5G home internet and one streaming service sounds like a lot at around 140$, but its really not that much because of discounts, internet for example will run at least 60$, 25$ for the phone and likely another 15$ or so for the streaming separately, and that's with one phone, if I had two, add 25$ to that. Still every bit is good, and I can likely drop the streaming, and maybe just use cellular internet? Have to figure out how much net I use here, not sure how to do that, but an unlimited data only plan might be a cheap solution.
Time to make the breakfast sandwiches. Homemade as i'm not paying $6.99 for 4 sandwiches that are undoubtedly laced with sugar, salt and preservatives when i can make my own for just 83Β’ each.
The oldest innovation in my system was thinking of the old pan i had kicking around my kitchen, its the same size as the bagels i use. The newest is the glass containers, no need to waste a paper towel every time i make one. Mind you, it'd be nice if'n 3qt containers existed, they'd take up less space in the freezer, but these 4qt work fine.

[media2]Yes, the sandwiches are stored upside down, they're reheated by replacing the lid with a plate, propping the container up slightly to vent, and microwaving for 45 to 50 seconds per side. With the bottom being thinner than the top, you want to finish upside down so it doesn't stick to the plate.
Ooof, tired pup and really no good reason, easy 6 hour day, 62 stops, temperature was a touch above 0Β°C, prolly felt like 0 or a hair under, and yet I'm tiiiiired, like dead tired, going to have a heat and eat cheese calzone, and then likely find my way to bed, and call it a night.
Ok, in a few minutes we get to go and play, ie clear the snow off the deck and stairs. While I'm out there I might straighten up the shed a bit too⦠Pay no attention to the fact that its -8°C feels like -13

Just got my Tello sim, sure, my phone can use an e-sim, but just do a search for problems with those. Yeah, I think I'll stick to my physical sims thank you very much. Any how, what comes now is that once my old phone is charged, I'm going to move my Verizon sim back to that one, and put the Tello in my current phone and port Vik's / @Vik-Thor / Lirleni Hankeshe number to it. I'll prolly have to update my phone number with all my gig apps, maybe tweak a few other things here and there, but we should be up and running by the end of the weekend (Monday), just in time for work.
Honestly I should've done this a while ago, I've had his number sitting at Verizon paying... I'm not sure how much a month, in case I want to recover his phone. Frankly I don't think I'm going to be able to recover it, I can get his iCloud through the courts, and we're going with that as we have some other matters that will require the courts for any how, so might as well save the money. Plus according to Verizon I only use around 12G of data for work, so we'll see how well a prepaid works, unlimited data only because its like $2-3 more than a 15G plan. If it doesn't work, I can just swap the SIMs around, and try again maybe with someone else down the road.
I don't think switching from Verizon will really save me that much, the package deal I have going is saving me on Internet and streaming, and I'll prolly lose both of those if'n I leave, so that'll likely eat up any savings I have, but still, I hate spending money unnecessarily. Oh, and there is a prepaid version of the 5G home internet, so that might be a cheap alternative, that just leaves the streaming service, and... Ehhh, not sure I need it. Besides, π΄ββ οΈ is always an option.
So, in a couple hours, assuming I'm not napping (tired from clearing the driveway), we'll start the process and see how many things break.

So on my third try of selling Vik's comic collection, and this one might happen, yay. That'll make some room, and once @RS, Author, Novelist, Prosaist chooses any books he wants, that'll start going, and we'll get some space.
Its a little frustrating how much stuff there is to clear, but there's a story there. We had some low points in Phoenix, I'm undoubtedly somewhat to blame for that, I've never been great at sticking to a job, and I tend to create chaos. That said, I would work more if'n I could, sell off anything I could, I mean I really have never been attached to things, people, etc, particularly things since my bankruptcy, resulting in a house where maybe 20% of the stuff here is mine. Yeah, really, and that was before his mom passed, and he pulled in a lot of her stuff. Need to get someone from the family to come get a lot of this stuff, between just photos, quilts and her birds, I'll prolly have enough to fill a minivan
With that in mind, lots to sell here, and a great desire, a very great desire, to down size. Still considering the future, both location, likely Illinois, though there's a slim chance of Maryland, and likely building a house, maybe a tiny home, I mean I already know I don't need more than 900 sq ft, and could do as little as 600. An estate sale isn't really an option, companies like that really expect volume and/or stuff people want to buy... A few collectibles, no antiques, and Ikea furniture at best isn't really their thing. So, we'll be at the first three flea markets at Sunset Hills community center, those are... March, April and May I think, I've already paid for my spaces, but I do need to touch base as I haven't received an info packet or anything like that, but it might be too soon, we'll see.
So yeah, really clearing a lot out of here, not because I didn't love him, but because I need some space. Honestly, we were two train wrecks holding each other up, I started taking care of the finances because he just basically operated on a make and spend model, I made things work while he did what he wanted, on the other hand, I couldn't be trusted to stay at a job which didn't help, so he was the breadwinner.
I will say I'm loving this day and age, I do the type of work I like, without the constraints of a typical job, which fits my instability well. These days I basically do the same job as UPS, but using my phone, my car, and a gig app, and come and go as I please, if'n I get tired of deliveries, there's plenty of remote work out there. Or I'm thinking of getting a 3D printer and making things, find an artist so I can start a series of cryptid traffic signs, lots of ways to make money out there thanks to tech.
Gotta say, as I expand into Wafrn... Spread like mold? I keep finding stuff I like, from being able to bite people, after all pokes are boring, or the barking and confetti when I woot, yes, woot not toot, and other cute things, then there's the little details...
Believe strongly in alt text? Its default required in the settings, you have to go and turn it off, or your media posts won't send without having something in there.
Sharing links? Sure, it sucks that you can't see the preview until after you post, but things like GoComics which never shows a thumbnail or synopsis here on Friendica works perfectly.
I think @gabboman the wafrn dev could prolly use some help on the project, but so far, what it does have works really nicely.
So, I've started migrating the people I follow over to my Wafrn account, @Chuff , following them there and unfollowing them here... And got into the B's and realized something, Wafrn doesn't give me any way to see my followers list nor migrate it far as I know which means I have no idea who I'm following over there.

Well, no problem, just downloaded the list here, so at least I'll be able to recover the rest of them if needed, I do expect to switch to my own hosted Wafrn in the future if'n I'm lucky, poked one hosting service abotu it already even though I'm not remotely ready to do it.
Why my own? To avoid some of the stupidities I've had to deal with on other people's instances, once got warned about not CW'd a picture of a cowtaur (cow person upper body, cow lower body), not because of sex, not because she was topless, but because you could see her udder. Yeah, that was the straw that broke my back and why I just have my own instance. Currently here I have... 5 accounts? Not sock puppets, this one, Admin, Recalls, Taurs and the newest, my porn account. Yeah, that's enough to justify my own instance.
EDIT Eww, that is one ugly and barely useful CSV file, only exports two things, user account names and whether I can see their posts or not. Following, follower or mutual status not included, nor is the profile name. Bleah.
Starting today I'm using my Wafrn more, but it won't completely replace this place. At the very least, this will still be my blog, at least unless I find a better platform for that. Oh, and following pod people (Disapora users), at least until they move to something ActivityPub. And RSS feeds.
So, what does Wafrn lack that Friendica has? Categories, useful as I can share links to just part of my blog here Diaspora compatibility Feed reader, this is one of the neatest features here, they show up in your timeline just like anyone else you follow Hashtag auto complete/suggestion, kinda useful so we don't wind up with a thousand variations on the same thing Link display in post creation window, if you paste a link into the creation box on Friendica or Mastodon, it displays the summary so you can see what the post will look like, Wafrn, you have to wait until your post is on your dashboard No following or followers list
What's it missing that I want? Queue function like Tumblr, something that Friendica has made clear they see no point in An easy way to share internet links. This one isn't on Wafrn, for Friendica and Mastodon I use an extension on Firefox, I think this is a fork, of the older FediShare extension, and this one I don't think is supported as it seems to be a bit out of date on what services it supports. It'd be nice to see someone take over it and maintain it as its useful for sharing things.
Other bugs/glitches? Relatively minor stuff, tried to upload a video that was possibly too big and got no error, just no video attached to the post. If you search for someone then follow them, the page doesn't refresh the button status, the follow button doesn't become an unfollow, rather it stays a follow button
Seriously, that's a long list of nitpicks really, and like stuff @gabboman the wafrn dev will likely fix as time goes on since Wafrn is young, and none are a deal breaker. I'll prolly switch to hosted Wafrn instant at some point in the future, just have to figure out costs and what I want to do with this place.
@gabboman the wafrn dev I can imagine, not even to a full version yet, right? I figured none of that stuff has any chance of happening any time soon, but hey, a pup can wish, right? And the Fedishare extension thing is kinda unrelated, though it does annoy me that that extension isn't maintained considering how little maintenance it'd need.
Not sure if'n it'd help with either the Diaspora or the RSS feed thing, but IIRC, the original developer of Friendica created a library of modules to be used in Fediverse apps on GitHub, SocialHome and one other use some of the bits.
As to the list, I think it depends on goals, want to stand out, consider the queue function, prolly fairly easy thing to add, and useful as its main purpose is flood control. Bring it up to Mastodon/et al features, add some manner of follower/followers management and/or fix the hashtag thing. Want to kill Diaspora? Add compatibility.
Really this is a wish list, and if'n any of it happens, cool, if not, oh well, just impacts what will be my main Fediverse app
Yeah, I know, seems to be every day I post about my misadventures with Fediverse software, right? Seriously though, somethings are moving really fast...
#holos just released 17-1, that's like five versions in less than a month, and Federation finally works, yay... And we seem to have a new problem, I seem to have followed a few new people without following them, that's a weird new glitch @Holos Social Still, it otherwise works great, extremely fast to update, in fact the biggest problem is with my phone which seems to go to sleep when the screen goes off, and all notifications stop, obviously a problem here. Beyond that, its really me, while I do the occasional message from my phone, I'm an old grey muzzle, and prefer to leave the net on my computer, so I don't think I'll be sticking around, maybe to the end of the month, maybe less, but if'n you're the type that does most things from your phone, give this one a look, its a really neat project, a really good alternative to Mastodon.

#wafrn now this one, this one I'm really in love with. Sure, there's a few features I wish it had, and unless I can find a way other than hashtags to sort my content, it won't replace this place completely, but it could very easily become my main and replace my #Mastodon . Honestly I think it might kill #diaspora , don't get me wrong, I love Diaspora, but I think the lack of #ActivityPub has done it no favors, and Wafrn may be the first viable replacement for it. Either way, for those not familiar with it, its basically the Fediverse's answer to Tumblr, and while it doesn't look quite the same, it looks quite nice, and has some fun features including the ability to bite people.
I looked at #Wafrn and am not quite a fan of them trying to block VPNs or them storing IPs for when you register, send an image, or when you last logged in, presumably to punish VPN users.
Just not crazy about that because using a VPN has become more important than ever.
@Luigi.exe (Dragonheart System) Is that Wafrn the software, or the site? I'm on bark.wolp.chat rather than the original and would switch to my own hosted instance if I decide to move mostly over there.
We only block registration from VPNs because of safety purposes (we have seen so many times that spambots and stuff wants to get in with a VPN), but if you use a VPN after registration (e.g. for posting or viewing posts), it is fine
