What is it?
Well, that's a good question, prolly a change in hosts, but we are remaining with #friendica . We had considered switching to #hubzilla , the successor to Friendica, but it has some weird issues. For one, this instance will not talk to it, dunno why. Also it automagically subscribes me to every thread that I boost or comment on, and there doesn't seem to be a way to change that. And then there's the Diaspora connection, which oddly is more limited than the one here, no idea how that is possible.

So, we're looking at Elastio, their website has improved, or at least they're hiding the requirement of picking your server now, which frankly I don't see why I have to do that, after all, I pay you to take care of setting up a server for me, and all that, I just admin and mod it. But, I do have to contact them about whether they'll allow me to add custom themes, add ons, and such. With me taking a long trip next week, that'll have to wait until I get back.

The other thing to decide is on the domain name, keep the current sub domain, or simply use the main one? Or use my new other domain, I bought it with an eye on a new project, something I don't think I'm going to do, though if'n someone is interested in creating a project for the #Fediverse , I'll be happy to support it, I do have something I'd like to do, Friendica Mk II as it were. That said, I was going to offer @Daniel Supernault the domain if'n he wanted it for a suggested Hubzilla inspired idea for his apps that I offered. If not, I'll keep it as I love the domain, and I might use it for my blog instead. Especially as I might do a invite only friends and family instance instead of the current personal instance.

If any one is wondering, the current name came from my husband having a cattaur OC and me having a centaur OC. With him passing, and my AWD OC becoming my personal OC as it feels more right for me at least right now. Also I did an early renewal on the domain as the price is going up on .haus domains. Domain and email don't cost too much, but add in instance hosting, and it starts to add up, so yet another increase, and I might ditch it. Then again, the new ones (yes, ones), aren't cheap either, so… Eh, dunno what we're doing on that front.

So, seeing as how it looks like @GoFedi is dead or at least dying, looks like we need a new home, but finding Friendica hosting is near impossible.

With that in mind, anyone recommend one?
I know of Elastio I think it is, but that requires me to choose my server package rather than merely hiring them and leaving all the under the hood stuff to them, so I'm not a big fan, I want something similar to MastoHost.

Funny thing, I've been playing with Hubzilla, and its easier to find hosting for that.

Perhaps someone that's already self-hosting their own instance might be interested in making some money hosting mine? I don't mind paying more than cost and labor, a little extra to keep your instance up is fine by me. I'm in the US, but frankly I don't care where my instance is hosted, heck, offshore is prolly best.

Ok, I'm being a bit silly, but not entirely. I use Friendica because it has three features I consider necessary:

1• Quote posts, now done by Mastodon
2• RSS/Atom feed reader, you can follow feeds just like any of your friends on the Fediverse and they show up in your timelines just like them.
3•Diaspora compatibility, its just nice having access to the entire Fediverse.

Yeah, that's it, the thing is that I don't really like Friendica's interface, I much prefer the one Diaspora has, so maybe Diaspora with added AP connectivity and a feed reader? I seem to remember more than once someone saying they wanted to create something for the Fediverse, plus there's a couple young projects, GoToSocial and SocialHome that almost offer this, they just lack the feed reader.

Isn't #friendica 's components available for use in other projects? I seem to remember that its creator made a suite of components available for building Fedi projects

I posted asking for help on this a bit ago, and while I didn't get any solutions, it did get my brain thinking outside of the box, and I found the solution, its easy, but proof that the UI, especially the settings layout really needs some work around here.

For whatever reason, the necessary setting isn't under the timeline settings, but Social Networks

The key setting here is Followed Content Scope, default is 'Conversations my follows started or commented on', but if'n you change it to 'Only conversations my follows started' if will only show original posts and boosts.

Hopefully this'll help others, I mentioned in a comment on my original post, but that could easily be missed, so here we go. Oh, and if'n you've any tag suggestions, send them my way, and I'll prolly add them.

That's the light theme, and I'm not often a fan of light themes, at least not over dark themes, usually I don't have a preference, but the dark I don't think is quite as good:

Seriously, I think this is much better than the stock theme, and should always be included.

What's with the domain name?
Me and my husband ( @Vik-Thor / Lirleni Hankeshe ) both have taur OC's, a cattaur for him, and a centaur for me, so a taur themed domain seemed fitting.
