BBC News: Why don't Europeans buy more American cars? - BBC News

tl;dr - they're a bit shit, they're not economical, and they're too big to drive on smaller European city streets and lanes.

This is my typical European car, carrying more that most US pickups could manage in one go.

And doing about 65mpg.

@davidgrieve But that doesn't look "Manley " and there was never an advertisement with a super deep mans voice talking about utility and dependability.

Sigh: We're doomed. Move on without us.

I think it's Paris that now charges double to such large cars when parked in the ciy...I'm sure other cities will do the same soon..

one of these behemoths pulled up next to me the other week. I turned to say something to my dad, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, and noticed his head was below the bonnet of that thing.
Yes, that's right - the top of the bonnet was higher than a full grown man sitting on a normal car.
I feel safer going round a roundabout next to an HGV than one of these monstrosities (at least the HGV driver knows there's other vehicles around them).

@Ebly we parked next to a truck that was overfilling its parking spot yesterday and noticed that the side view mirrors were higher than the roof of our car.

American automakers expect Europeans to adapt their taste to their high-margin manufacturing.

And yes, most Americans drive cars that are far too big for their purposes and that endanger pedestrians.

@Badger_AF
Yes! Good Lord, many of us *want* smaller cars to drive. We badly need smaller, more affordable EV's, not just luxury SUV's or giant pickup trucks. Why should we expect Europeans to want giant trucks? Man, a lot of *us* can't stand those things, to the point that the giant lifted pickup driven by a cosplay cowboy is a cultural joke.

Why wouldn't you buy a car that's almost two lanes wide and only really fits a parking place when it's your own driveway?

@Takiro 🎨 @Dave nλ=2dsinθ As a delivery driver, I can tell you that I've delivered to houses where a full sized truck won't fit in the driveway, let alone the garage, so if'n it's too big for American homes, where's it going to fit?
