Yeesh, woke up to the house in the low 60's because the furnace had stopped. Super lucky, it was just that the batteries in the thermostat went dead, and as it happens, earlier in the month I'd stocked up on AAA batteries, so easy fix... And then the long wait for the house to warm up.

This is another example of the old owners cutting corners, likely the electronic thermostat is hooked up to an old two wire system, hence the batteries. The builder was known for cutting corners, so odds are that I'll be lucky enough to make the fix easy, I just need to run wire back to the furnace with more conductors, and I can use the old wire for fishing as long as they didn't anchor it to the studs, and odds are good they didn't. Prolly go with a six wire, overkill for this thermostat if'n I keep it, I mean the backlight died a while ago, so I should prolly replace it, but... Either way, six wire will future-proof this place.

Beyond that, just dragging a bit this morning, tired, guess I didn't sleep well because of the cold? I do know I was bad and stayed up late. Oh, and its cold, feels like single digits out here. Still going to work as I don't like cancelling so soon to pick up time, but I was promised 30/40Β°F today, and do not like working in single digits.

I keep mine pretty low in the winter anyway....but yeah, about the batteries..I hate that....I had to run a 'C' wire to my wifi thermostat when I bought it a few years back. Was a pita to run the single wire from the furnace to the thermostat made a huge mess but glad I did it. ...and now I'm getting a heat pump installed in place of the furnace but, get this, The fancy wireless thermostat that goes with is battery powered....stupid IMO...stupid....should have the ability to use the power via the previous wires! So now I'm back to having to replace thermostat batteries every year or so...
