Madison County Board Chairman Slusser defends Fauci hanging post as 'rhetorical hyperbole'
Madison County Board Chairman Chris Slusser said Friday that a comment he made on Facebook calling for the βpublic hangingβ of Dr. Anthony Fauci was βrhetorical hyperbole.β
Slusserβs comments were posted in the replies to a post that appears to have since been deleted. Slusser, from his personal account, made the comment around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
βHe should receive a public hanging,β Slusser wrote of Fauci.
On Friday, Slusser pushed back against criticism of the post.
βAnyone with common sense knows the remark wasn't a literal call for public execution,β Slusser wrote in a Facebook post. βIt was obvious rhetorical hyperbole β the kind of exaggerated language people use every day. It was a call for more public scrutiny. If certain people are going to be offended by every figure of speech, theyβll never stop being offended.β...
