@Fedi.Tips have any idea why I might want to use the "Categories" function when posting from Friendica? They're not the same as hashtags… πŸ€”

I'm not totally sure how it's intended, but I think it's meant to be for categorising your posts so that it's easier to browse them?

You can do something similar on Mastodon with its "featured hashtags" system that lets people browsing your profile see your posts that have particular tags.

@mosspiglet @Fedi.Tips Categories? I'm over on Friendica, so I'd be happy to help, but what's a category, mine doesn't seem to have it.

NVM, found it, wasn't looking in the right place. FediTips is exactly right, its used for sorting your own posts, but you can also share those with people so they only see part of your blog, for example blog.taursnd.haus/profile/vext… will only show you the posts I've categorized as being about EVs (I forgot I had that category, gotta start using it again).

@🌴 Seph πŸ’ πŸ‘Ύ ah, very cool! Thanks for the explanation and the sample link. That's actually more useful than I thought it could be. I'll start using categories, for sure!

@mosspiglet Another thing I forgot to mention, you can put more than one category on a post, just separate them with commas

@🌴 Seph πŸ’ πŸ‘Ύ thank you! I have an unrelated question about Friendica's network feed that I can't find an answer to, wondering if you might be able to help:

Some posts from people I follow are expanded automatically, so I see the original post plus a dozen or so comments. Sometimes there are even more comments that I can expand, but I can't find a way to collapse all comments. This makes for a very messy-looking feed.

Do you know of a way to make it so that comments are collapsed by default and only expanded when I click a button?

@🌴 Seph πŸ’ πŸ‘Ύ No worries. I think I've found a workable solution for me using some other web frontends rather than the Friendica frontend. Thanks again for the help with categories πŸ™
