Yes, #Fedilab has some differences between its Google Play version and its #FDroid version.
There are mostly due to restrictions from Google.

In the Google app we had to remove:

- Donation links
- Register an account on Mastodon (as they don't want to understand that the app doesn't collect emails).
- Filter some search results with #Peertube to exclude "YouTube Downloader" videos

To Google users, keep in mind you can easily switch to FDroid, we would be happy to help if you have questions

@sidalsolgun
No because they can link to their instance while their app can be used by all other instances.

@fnord
@essjotbe Yes, you can use UnifiedPush to get push notifications without Google. Fedilab should work with any UnifiedPush distributor app (unifiedpush.org/users/distribu…)

@vextaur @essjotbe I had similar problems with Element. Apparently you need to allow it to run in the background, because otherwise Android can choose to ignore Ntfy's request to wake the receiving app. 🙄 At least it is still only one app with an open connection, I guess.

Got more details on that last point?

Google refusing to allow an app on Play unless it censors content on a competing service should be big news, if true.

@nikclayton
It happened with Tubelab which is now a part of Fedilab. Here are the screenshot of the email we received and the screenshot they attached to the email.

That sucks.

It also looks like an over zealous reviewer. When I've had stuff like that with #Pachli, pointing out that it's user generated content, with a screenshot of Chrome showing the same thing has helped.

Totally understand if that's more hassle/risk than you want to take on though.

/Cc @404mediaco , as this seems like the sort of thing they might be interested in (if Google policies do actually ban this)

SRSLY?

Donation links?
Account registration?
Censorship of third-party content?

Are they nuts?

I'm done with Google Play.
