I found what churches preach is to get people in the doors and become members. My experience is with the Mormon church and they call this, "milk before meat." After they pull a person in, there are many ways to trap them and keep from leaving, which may be apropos for many horror movie plots...

Churches and hypocrisy go hand in hand.

I was brought up as a christian, and "be good to each other" is the foundation of what Jesus preached.

Lots of so-called christians seem to have read a very different bible than I, one in which you don't care for other people, especially if they're not christians, or gay, or colored or anything else that makes them "different".

Hypocrites, all of them. They should reread the Good Samaritan, maybe that would ring s bell.

They will only help if you are a member. In order to be a member you must tithe. But... they can kick you out of the church at any time and you don't get those tithes back. So it's kind of like insurance, where you pay monthly premiums but the insurance company can deny your coverage or cancel your policy altogether. You are better off putting that money into a savings account.

White Christians tend not to attend the church for their religion though. They attend for the social aspect of it. They want to see who is attending and how much they are tithing, and be seen doing it better. They want the gossip about their sinful neighbors. They want to make cliches and pressure everyone to act how they want. It's a high school lunch room writ large.
