In my state, when I renew my registration they ask for the mileage on the car.

Should be simple to subtract last year's reading and charge me for the miles I've used on the roads.

While we're at it, I think my little Golf should be charged less per mile than someone's large and heavy SUV, and that less than the truck capable of carrying cargo.

@CelloMom On Cars Yeah, they could easily do that here, if'n you buy a car from out of state, you have to have an odometer check at an inspection state before you can register it, so obviously they could extend that to all electric vehicles at every renewal.
Figuring out the rate is a little tricky, is that an eGolf or a Golf? The weight of the batteries in an electric car (Nissan Leaf 62Kwh pack is roughtly 950#) can put them on par with some light trucks, and weight is a leading cause of wear and tear on roads.

I mean, they have my car's VIN number so they know what year and model it is and can figure out its empty weight.
