I honestly think nobody believed that they would do all the things that that said they would do. Or if they did believe they were going to try, they assumed that something in the system would stop them. I know most of the people I've actually talked to about project 2025 said they never imagined it could actually really happen. They thought it was just the Republicans basically lying to their base to get votes and that it wouldn't really go anywhere near as far as it really did.

If I'm honest even I am kind of surprised it just how far they've gotten, and how much they've gotten away with. The fact that our system has just utterly failed at nearly every single turn to stop them is kind of mind-blowing.

I will say this though, it's been very eye-opening. It's made me aware that our political systems are absolutely dependent on good faith. And has shown beyond a doubt that if people are willing to set their good faith aside this country can be taken over with minimal effort. It's kind of like if the United States were wearing a full suit of armor but had no breastplate.
