So I've heard a couple people mention that you can just send a message from Deltachat to someone's email address. I don't see where to do that. Whenever I try to send a message to someone it comes up with a "new contact" thing that only lets me scan or paste their code. I don't see where to enter an email in. o.O

I get the impression that DeltaChat only allows it in theory, since it technically uses SMTP under the hood. Just like you can use it with an ordinary e-mail account and server in theory, but you'd be hammering a service not designed for it, and clogging your inbox with old messages. In practice it's not interoperable.

@claude Yeah, I was under the impression it wasn't what you wanted to chat with, but rather more something where you could use it short term to message someone that didn't have DeltaChat. Like an invite.
Though I did talk to someone on here that mentioned he used it to send messages to clients via email instead of using his email.
But I have no idea how he did that. I can't find anything in it that just lets you send a message to a normal email user.

@Xoa Gray Its actually easy, hit the plus sign at the bottom of your contact list, one of the choices is new email. I decided to try it out, and I'm still waiting for the message to show up.

@Xoa Gray Interesting, that's not the desktop is it? Here's what I see on that:

Let's see on Android...

No need for a screen shot, same exact thing.

@vextaur The screenshot I showed you was desktop, But it's the same thing on my phone. I wonder if that option is only available if you use an external email to make your account instead of Deltachat's chatmail server.

@Xoa Gray Hmmm, maybe, not that it seems to work, my test message never showed up, though I'm going to try another email address.
