@Kashouri App drawer or no? Mine's got a single widget for time, weather, battery and alarm, and that's it on the one and only home screen, bottom row has a 2 folders and 3 apps down there, and that's it, everything else is hidden in the app drawer.

@Kashouri Me neither, it's so messy. I mean you can use folders to clean things up, but unless there's a widget that let's you see the first few icons full sized, you wind up straining your eyes trying to see what's in there, or memorizing what every folder on your screen is for.

@vextaur To be fair, normally I have a page full of app icons. This time though I've decided to go super minimalistic for me. It sounds daft but I think that the way the image on the wallpaper creates a "natural" boundary really helps to focus on the mind on how many apps should be on the screen.
in reply to Kashouri

@Kashouri Not a bad way, I simply go with a rigid rule of just the info and apps I need quick access to, though I will admit that widget has a bit more than I need, but it's the best time and weather widget my phone came with for info and compactness.

@Kashouri Nice and clean, but I know my alarm time (actually if'n it showed the days that'd be useful), and the battery is a duplication of the notification bar, and I just hate wasting space like that

@ramesh I am kinda split between them to be honest. I prefer the size of the 16e, and overall power beats the Pixel

However the 9a has a fantastic screen and at the moment Android feels more refined then iOS does to me.

I would say right now the 9a edges it but there’s not much in it and a lot closer then either side would like to claim.

in reply to Kashouri

yeah, iOS kind of went south with iOS 18.
You keep switching phones a lot 😜 how do you manage your Apps etc.? meaning if you use WhatsApp predominantly, the back up when switching from Android to iOS is a pain ( as resetting the phone is a must)

@ramesh The issue Apple has had in recent years is historically (with a few exceptions), they’ve released updates that Android has already had for years. They would however wait until it was polished. Now they rush to be first or to keep up immediately. They aren’t agile enough to do that. (Look at the AI mess).
in reply to Kashouri

What's your preferred OS? I swing between both based on my mood but I do prefer Android.
in reply to Ramesh :mastodon:

@ramesh I’ve always preferred Android. Had the G1 when that was released (back before Android had an on screen keyboard)

I go between them to be fair. At the moment, things seem better integrated with Android as β€œfeatures” feel bolted on in iOS at the moment (used to be the reverse).

@ramesh To answer your question. Yeah I change phones far too many times and never back up my messages/whatsapp.

I think because I’ve always tried different phones often (even pre-smartphone era), it’s never bothered me that I don’t have older messages etc.

in reply to Kashouri

Woah! So, you haven't had any messages that you need to be backed up for reference in future? Intresting. I don't care about SMS but WhatsApp is so ingrained in the Indian communication system, we do need a backup.
in reply to Ramesh :mastodon:

@ramesh WhatsApp is big over here in the UK too (RCS seems to slowly be shifting that balance though).

I just never have important conversations i need to keep I guess πŸ˜‚
