Yayโฆ Well, sorta yay, finally got 2 new M2 cars to add to my collection, its been months since WalMart had anything I wanted, in fact their stock has been real low for a long time. Below that are the American cab overs, whether Dodge A series or Ford econolines, so far 16 of those taking up just over two shleves. Finally at the end are the rest of the miscellany, a pair of 50's Ford conventional trucks, and the newest additionโฆ ![media-2] A 1970 C900 pickup. 100 was ยฝ ton, 200 ยพ ton, 300 1 ton, soโฆ ? Not sure what the weight class were on these, but they were heavy duty trucks typically box trucks, flatbeds or other service vehicles, a pickup is very interesting to see, and I always love the styling on these.
Neat as it is, and I haven't read the article yet, but I doubt it'll be any kind of success here. Sure, I think it'll be great in major cities, and would be a great UTV or golf cart replacement in suburbs and exurbs, but the price and the cost of insurance will make it too expensive for those unless something changes.

@Isaac Kuo The only thing I see wrong with this design is the automatic plugging in, I think manually would be better, but the rest of the system is pretty good, maybe improved by limiting it to left and right movement, but that's about it.
@๐ด Seph ๐ญ ๐พ There are several different systems shown, and AFAICT only one of them has automatic plugging in (it's the picture of a complex robotic arm charger).
The first system shown has the ability to automatically lower a charger, but it must be manually plugged in.
I know that the second paragraph says that it plugs in automatically, and I found other articles repeating this claim, but this is just a case of people being stupid. It doesn't plug in automatically. You have to plug it in manually.
Apparently, people studying the video have calculated you'd have to wait around 15 minutes for the robot to arrive. (The video is sped up, the robots are much slower than they appear.)

@Isaac Kuo Can't fathom why they'd be that slow, then again, if its meant to move around like I was assuming it does in all directions, I suppose it might take a while to find its way there. Funny thing is how simple this could be, left to right, pull down a cord and plug in. Heck, could just do it wall mounted on a track.
I guess I should explain - there's no space for any sort of servos to robotically move the cable other than reeling it up/down. And that is the limit of what the viral video shows.
I don't think the original company was trying to be deceptive, I think that people reposting the viral video added the claim of automatic plug in and people stupidly repeated the claim with no basis.
In contrast, there are certain humanoid robot companies which are just plain scammers at this point, deceptively posting videos that claim to be "AI" autonomous operation when they've been caught using remote control just off screen.
In the case of this video, I think the company isn't being deceptive. And speeding up footage is common enough and should be expected.
@๐ด Seph ๐ญ ๐พ I don't know if it has anything to do with the speed, but it's not just going left/right. You can see there's a main rail that goes left/right, as well as short "cross" rails perpendicular to the main rail.
The idea of moving off onto these short side rails is that the robots do NOT block each other.
It's not obvious to me exactly how the movement mechanisms work. Depending on how it's done, maybe the wheels used are too small for fast movement or something.
