So what to do now

Now that the Big Ugly Bill has passed, what to do now? I've a lot of rambling thoughts, but the shortest and most important? Anti-consumerism, not just because we're going to be a lot poorer thanks to this, but because the economy is built on us using the few pennies the rich give us to buy things they tell us we need. Lets all spend our money, what little they give us, wisely, and do everything we can to avoid giving any of it back to them.

The image features a graphic design centered around the theme of "West Coast Secession." The background is a light, textured gray. At the center, there is a black silhouette of the states of Washington, Oregon, and California, representing the West Coast region. Surrounding this silhouette is a circular arrangement of alternating blue and green stars, creating a border effect. Above the silhouette, the text "WEST COAST" is prominently displayed in bold blue capital letters. Below the silhouette, the word "SECESSION" is written in bold green capital letters. On either side of the image, there are silhouettes of a creature resembling Bigfoot, with one raising its arm in a rock-and-roll gesture. The overall design conveys a sense of unity and movement, with the elements arranged symmetrically around the central map.

The image features a social media post with a dark background and white text. At the top, there is a circular profile picture of a cartoon character with glasses, covering his face with his hands. Below the profile picture, the username "austerity is theft" is displayed in white text, followed by the handle "[@]wideofthepost" in a smaller font. The main body of the post is a block of text that reads: "Once you build a massive 'deportation' machine, an industry really, it will not stop with one category of immigrants, or immigrants at all. It will self-perpetuate new classes of people to detain, to fill detention beds and meet removal quotas. It will create a meal to feast on." The text is centered and occupies the majority of the image space.

Let's talk about me

Oh come on, had to use that headline, even if'n we're just talking about my accounts. For the most part I'm on the Fediverse, although I am also on Reddit and Tumblr.

For those that remember my last post about this, I got rid of my Diaspora, the idea was for it to serve as an easy bridge between Tumblr and here, since Friendica doesn't thumbnail Tumblr post usually. Diaspora does that, until it doesn't, plus sometimes posts on Diaspora wouldn't properly display here, so that was rather pointless.
These days I just throw the memes up directly here, however there can be some lag if'n I forget to make a new post, and then I need help with alt text and @Altbot isn't entirely reliable ( @Micr0byte ), such as giving me alt text in the wrong language, or not at all. In fact today it managed to give me no alt text, but to message me and tell me that I should add the alt text to the image.

Here I have four accounts, this one, @Kāpitan which is the admin and occasionally posts server, admin or moderation commentary, @Recalls which posts all the recalls I can find, and finally @The Taur Nation which is devoted to posting centaur, lamia, naga and related artwork links and occasionally artwork, rated from G-R18G, content warninged as necessary.
Here there be questions, things about my life, and politics, though we do try to make sure they're properly tagged so you can make them go away.

If'n you don't like the politics, try my Mastodon, @Taurnsndhaus Admin , originally planned to be a back up in case something happened here, its boosting general content from here, occasionally original posts, so long as the post fits in a single tweet. Any politics that show up there will be local, St Louis, St Louis metro or Missouri, nothing national.

Like politics? Then my Tumblr is for you, here I post the most interesting and/or important stuff I find there, but I boost a lot more over there. Not much original content over there, despite how much I like it, I just tend to forget about it.

And lastly Reddit, which is mostly content I can't find here on the Fediverse, r/StLouis and ones related to my car (r/ChevyBolt) or my gig work. If that stuff starts showing up on the Fediverse, I'll start moving away from it.

The image shows a group of men in suits, likely senators, gathered together in a legislative chamber. They are embracing each other, with their arms around each other's shoulders, suggesting a moment of unity or prayer. The setting appears to be a formal government building, with wooden paneling and rows of seats visible in the background. The men are dressed in dark suits, and some are wearing ties. The image is overlaid with text that reads: "Rev. Benjamin Cremer [@]Brcremer When I see senators praying for the passage of a bill that will harm the poor, the sick, and the hungry, I think of Isaiah 1:15: When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood." The text is presented in white font on a black background, contrasting with the image above.

"Jamie Raskin's Preamble to the Big Ugly Bill and Trump didn't like it”, DailyKos

β€œMr. Speaker, I found a Preamble to this Big Ugly Bill. We the billionaires, and our King, in order to deform and sicken our Union, establish injustice, ensure domestic servility, weaken our peoples defenses, undermine our general welfare, and reserve to ourselves and our posterity staggering debt servitude for eternity, do herby instruct the Republicans in Congress to strip 17 million people of their healthcare, increase copays, premiums and deductibles for everyone else, cut 42 million people off of nutritional assistance, increase the national debt by 4 trillion dollars, trash renewable energy systems, increase our electric bills for the carbon kings, all to weaken and destroy the Constitution of the people of these United States of America. Please include this Preamble in the legislative record. I yield back.”

The image is a screenshot of a social media post by a user named "onbearfeet" dated July 3, 2024. The post is about PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and its relation to the 4th of July celebrations, specifically fireworks. The background of the post is black, and the text is white, making it easy to read.

The post begins with a friendly reminder to fellow USAmericans about the impact of fireworks on individuals with PTSD. It highlights four key points:

  1. The recent history of two large, active wars has led to a significant number of veterans with PTSD.
  2. The population of veterans with PTSD is a small part of the larger group of people living with the disorder.
  3. People with PTSD are more likely to live in low-income, crowded areas, where access to care might be limited.
  4. The exaggerated startle response often associated with PTSD is not the only symptom caused by sudden loud noises.

The post emphasizes the importance of considering the impact of fireworks on individuals with PTSD, especially those who may not be able to sleep or experience other distressing symptoms. It suggests that scheduled fireworks displays are more tolerable than random loud noises, and encourages people to be considerate of those who may need to leave early or find quieter places to avoid distress.

The post concludes with a plea for understanding and support, using hashtags such as #ptsd, #kat has ptsd, #4th of July, and #mental health support to highlight the message.

A quotation from George Carlin
Folks, I hate to spoil your fun, but β€” there’s no such thing as rights. Okay? They’re imaginary. We made ’em up. […] Now, if you think you do have rights, one last assignment for you. Next time you’re at the computer, get on the Internet, go to Wikipedia. When you get to Wikipedia, in the search field for Wikipedia I want you to type in β€œJapanese-American 1942,” and you’ll find all about your precious fucking rights, okay? […] Just when these American citizens needed their rights the most, their government took ’em away. And rights aren’t β€œrights” if someone can take ’em away β€” they’re privileges. That’s all we’ve ever had in this country is a Bill of Temporary Privileges. And if you read the news, even badly, you know that every year the list gets shorter and shorter and shorter.
