Oh yeah, one of my husband's cousins can't marry his girlfriend because of this, she'd lose her benefits while he doesn't make enough to pay for her medical needs.

Holy crap, is that really how things are in the US?? 😲

You have to be certified dirt poor before you get a bit of help??? As long as you're not completlye at rock bottom, you can just f*** off and die?

I'm probably not supposed to say this, but I think I understand what drove Luigi Mangione...

@diana πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ¦‹ So glad my society works differently... In my neck of the woods you get the medical help you need, without the requirement of first losing every penny you have.

Sure, that does mean that some people get financial support they don't need, but it also means nobody will ever be denied medical care when needed.

In my eyes that's one of the most fundamental values of a society: taking care of each other. Not for the money, but for the benefit of people and, by extension, society itself.

Yup, I don't only sound like a socialist, I consider myself to be one πŸ˜ƒ

And the homeless living on the streets are now being called β€œillegal” in the U.S.

I think the next step will be poor houses and treadmills.
