Oh ffs! If there is one nation that is not one people and not one culture, it's the melting pot that is the US.

I love living in a cosmopolitan place - I like hearing languages I do not understand and finding food I've not encountered before.

I loved having lunch in San Francisco and being visited by a dancing dragon with firecrackers. I really want to visit places like Kyrgyzstan and Samarkand in Uzbekistan.

I'm from Ukraine; my wife is from Belgium via settlers in Minnesota; my neighbors are from Seychelles, Kenya, and Senegal. We have friends from Chengdu in China.

Xenophobia is stupid.

Different languages and accents are music to my ears 🥰

The white monotone monoculture is dread

@diana 🏳️‍⚧️🦋 OH MAN but you would have really enjoyed "armchair traveling" on the shortwave radio, the international broadcasting bands, when they were in their heyday. It ain't much nowadays, I'm afraid. Once upon a time you could listen to language teaching programs, like Dutch By Radio. Even Voice of America would broadcast in "Special English" to a non-English-speaking target region of the world and include some of the language spoken in the target area in the process. They had English classes on the air which did the same thing.

Good ole days.

I miss listening to shortwave radio. It was like watching the stars at night, but life itself 🥰

I think this quote is incorrect.

If you're referring to the quote by Göbbels, it goes like this:

One People, One Country, One Leader

Text:

“Of course, the common people don’t want war. But ultimately, it is a country’s leaders who determine its policies, and it is always easy to get the people to go along with it, whether it’s a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, a parliamentary system, or a communist dictatorship. It’s quite simple. All you have to do is tell the people they’re under attack, accuse the pacifists of a lack of patriotism, and claim they’re putting the country in danger. This method works in every country.”

―Hermann Göring
