What we love about free software is the huge number of choices. What we hate about US elections is the small number of choices, none of them good enough to vote for.
The cure for this plague is not to hold our noses and vote for the Democrats; it's free, open, and fair elections.
When you have a two-party state, it's in the interests of neither party to open the system up to other parties and so they will set up a system of false choices to deceive the public.
@Khurram Wadee 4 states could have had ranked choice voting and ended the duopoly but once Palin lost in Alaska, she spearheaded the GOPs anti RCV smear campaign and I'm pretty sure Elon helped. Nevada was the one I was most shocked about because they had voted for RCV in 2022, but they require 2 election cycles voting for something to amend the constitution but killed the concept entirely this election. I'm just so glad the Alaskan indigenous showed up and pushed to keep RCV, that would have crushed all my hope entirely.
OK, four states out of fifty isn't that many, unless they were the four most populous. Even then, on top of that, you have the frankly ridiculous electoral college for presidential elections.
@Khurram Wadee We currently have 2 state with it. Had this election not been killed by the algorithm it would have gone up to 6 states, plus 3 state with the top 2 open primary. More states with it expose more people to it increasing the demand for it by citizens. We have to start somewhere and it feels like we are stuck in the mud and going no where. The electoral college is bad, but there are a lot of issues as well. We failed to make any forward progress at all this election.
The Democrats are just in the way. They're not useless; they're worse than useless. A halfway decent party could have easily defeated a stupid fool like Trump.
