Off the top of my head, wealthy countries don't want them and impoverished countries don't have the infrastructure to support them.

People don't want data centers at all.

People do not want them. Don't want the corporate collection of data, don't want the data saved, or stolen UP, or surveillance, the waste of billions of gallons of water, dont want the waste of terawatts of power, dont want climate destroying new carbon burners built, don't want vast tracts of land destroyed for the massive buildings, don't want the awful noise.

There are more reasons but my fingers, ow.

@kevinrns But people still want facebook, twitter, youtube etc to work, no? Where is all that data supposed to be stored? For years no-one cared about data centres, why the sudden change?

@Serpent7776 @kevinrns

On the off chance that you're asking the question in good faith, the data centers being planned are not to store uploaded photos and documents, they're for generative AI.
