@Jay Bryant We have been trained since childhood to support all kinds of hierarchy. We have collectively internalised it as a value. We've been continuously fed stories of kings and queens. Where are the stories about democracy?

So, we have feminists who are supportive of women, just not women of colour for instance. We have men who might understand racism, but will never ever vote for a woman.

And so even though we all understand how our place in our system is unfair, we often continue to support hierarchy in order to retain what superiority we happen to have. We then squander our ability to create change, because we are unwilling to cooperate with those who are different than us, but share our plight. We have learned to be frightened of being all equally poor and powerless, rather than assuming we could collectively better our lives.

I had two college professors who intentionally trained their students to spot that bias toward obedience and hierarchy. You can't question it until you can see it, and very few people can see it.
