More and more venues are requiring "e-tickets", allegedly to cut down on fraud. In reality to prevent resales without giving up another chunk on one side and the other of the transaction. Oh, and you HAVE to use our app, and you HAVE to turn on location services, and wouldn't you like to turn on precise location services? You know, for the "customer experience". Some places will give you a 'souvenir' paper ticket, which is nice for packrats like me.
But the drill seems to be install app outside of venue, download ticket, enter venue, delete app. Enjoy show.

It’s funny, our ethics teacher warned us 20 years ago when I was a graduate IT. One day, it will be impossible to get service from a person. We didn’t believe it back then…

The Automat concept has been around for a long time. Drive in burger places, ordering through a mic and having food delivered. There's a Korean restaurant called Namu near Chapel Hill NC I have eaten at a couple of times. Great food. A whole bunch of terraced patios. But you have to order online at your table and pay in advance. The future is not what I was promised by Walt Disney/Bell Telephone/etc.
