A rather little known fact is that before the Civil War, Sherman was soldier and banker in California. Across the bay, in Monterey, is one of the places Sherman lived and worked. He was known for riding around and exploring, so I suspect that Sherman came here to Santa Cruz at some time.

I imagine it's changed quite a bit in the intervening years!
