Well, compared to European standards it's not. If you believed the US media, you would come to the conclusion that it must be one. And I guess that's the twist this comparison tries to make. @tedel

Yes, for Americans, "socialism" means what we call Social Democracy. Kinda what the whole Europe was like after the war especially northern (richer..?) countries.
Free education, health... Most public services nationalized and geared towards, well, service rather than profit. It's a nightmare for investors and billionaires.
Nowadays you talk about nationalized public service you're dismissed as a commie
