So Silly - Not Loud enough!!! So Stupid IMO!!!

Over 23,000 Chevy Equinox EVs hit with a recall for this weird reason

Recalls reshared this.

Yes, this does affect mine, but there is much confusion about whether this requires a dealer visit or if it can be updated by an Over The Air software update...

My opinion is that the noise making is a not so low key way of making people not like EV's.
The range of subtle whine to full on angelic chorus is kind of dumb.
The noise argument was present back in the 70's when there was a lot of research going on. The kind of funny thing was that the noise level of the tires might be too high.
The thing I find is that many modern ICE cars are quieter than EV's when driving at low speed. And then the heavenly chorus drives by.
From my point of view, they are never silent, I hear autos approaching with earbuds in playing music quietly.
Raising the noise floor, 'just in case' seems kind of a way to get folks to not like them.
Self absorbed, cocooned drivers are immune to sirens and horns loud enough to be heard a mile away.
I suppose trying to keep pedestrians a little safer by giving them a chance to 'scatter' is better than just eliminating distracting things from the driver.

I would like my "noise" to be a cello, from its lowest note while stopped to its highest before cutoff. Alternatively, the gaits of a horse.

Most modern small ICE cars are more silent than my Tesla X! (And mine, being a 2017 model, doesn't make extraneous noises -- it's the weight causing more tire noise.)

This noise requirement is more stupid than the requirement to have a guy waving a lantern walking in front of a horseless carriage!

Don't get me started on the stupid back-up beeper on industrial equipment.....
