Birthright citizenship actually exists to bring an individual under the umbrella of the Constitution. That's all.
Eliminating 'birthright citizenship' would create an entire sub-class of non-citizens. If you cannot sign a contract until you are of legal age, you cannot apply for citizenship. If you have no legal status (dependent), then you can't begin naturalization.
But if your Taxpayer ID is your Social Security number, and you can't have an SSN without being a citizen, then you also can't be legally employed (i.e. illegal child labor, unprotected by labor laws).
